PS2 - Dual Commentary with Matt Higby and TotalBiscuit

Postby dirtYbird » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:19 pm

Totalbiscuit and Matt Higby did a live dual commentary on PS2.
This took place 9am Melb time but it has now been put on Youtube.
Its a lengthy piece at 75mins but they do go into some detail about the game and there is also in game vision.

If you are the slightest bit interested in the game then check out the full video.
There is a lot of new info.

I really think a beta could be sooner rather than later.
PCGamer has it listed as a Winter Release which is Xmas.
Fingers crossed it is but we'll soon see.

31:35 Magrider vs Reaver...thats what I wanted to see!!

Fuck me it's so hard to work out which section of the forum to post in! Between members, game of the month, ingame events, news etc, they're scattered all over the shop!

Anyway picking a random ps2 thread -

DB do you know if there's any word on ANT's in PS2? Any resourcing like that? While it was a bit choretastic - i hope they dont nerf the logistics side of the game. I like how in one of the vids they said they put in spawn stations specifically for E3, that in the live game you'd need a galaxy to spawn.

Is the galaxy then the only spawn option? What was that mobile base ground vehicle again, couldnt it cloak with a bubble around it? I completely cant remember the specifics - i think in my mind im confused between that and the T2 MPB.

Only thing i found with doing ANT runs (which imo were intense when you seriously needed base juice), were a lot of the time it was a chore of a long drive to the bubble, then the same back. Like 1 time in 20 you'd ever see action, meaning an escort wasnt even needed. They prolly wouldnt put them back in in that style - but i'd like there to be something along those lines - more than just cap all base points, it flips, repeats.

Only thing i feel from the vids (other than gushing) is that in some regards it looks a bit simplfiied - might be just something the vids dont illustrate as much - but it seems even anyone can hack - you needed a proper char or certs in Ps1 didnt you? Meaning you had to bring hackers - i hope it's not just a battlefield style anyone in range type thing.

I just worry these days, the trend is simplicity and lost depth. Complexity isnt neccessarily a bad thing. I hate seeing features dropped because they're deemed not fun - you need some 'not as fun' stuff to make other things funner(tm), if you know what i mean.

Also - are all the original vehicles in the game? I havent seen any bombers yet? I loved the bombers - remember sexual runs with like Farks and Rosco, carpet bombing bases, the lols on TS. Ah those were the good old days. I hope we have as much fun together in PS2 as we did in PS1 at any rate. I want some serious vehicle musters, oceans of max, squadrons of tactical pink ponies, full bangbuses etc. Omg someone hold me.

I'm putting as much as possible in news to pimp the game for those visitors that are not registered, all of the PS2 stuff is in News.

There are no ANTs in PS2, but there are resources that you need to purchase vehicles etc.
Different capture points will boost resourse supply.
Resources theory:
Image
Level 1 - Game points (for upgrades)
Level 2 - Light vehicles, light aircraft, MAX suits
Level 3 - Heavy vehicles, heavy aircraft, MBT, etc...
Level 4 - Sunderer, Liberator & Galaxy

No AMS from PS1, the Galaxy has a cert option to make it a spawn point as well.
You can also spawn on squad leaders via drop pods and of course medics rezing you. ie. JJ yelling DOC IN SQUAD - DO NOT RELEASE
Galaxy can seat 12 players but I think you will be able to cert in different layouts including weapons.
Certs give a lot of variety for all classes and vehicles.
Drop Pods can actually damage vehicles if they hit them, including aircraft!

MAX's cannot hax terminals but like you say I think anyone else can.
Bases have more than one terminal to hack as well so it makes sense to have more options to hack them.
MAX's wont be able to drive vehicles in release.
They also dont have faction specific abilities but you can cert them differently. (no jet packs)

Original vehicles in PS2 include the Liberator but its not like the old bomber, it has a 150mm cannon or a 30mm gattling gun.
It has seats for a pilot, gunner, and tailgunner, the pilot will also have access to a less powerful gun.
The 150mm cannon is just as effective as th eold bomb tho you may not lurk at high altitude doing carpet bomb runs.
Its still similar in effect but has a larger firing arc, whereas the old bomber relied on precision flying to access targets.

goto 50:41 for Lib action.

You are not alone with your concerns of over simplifying the game.
A number of others have posted at length along the same theme.
The Devs seem very receptive to ideas put forward and hopefully beta will iron out a number of the concerns.
Keep in mind the vision from E3 is a "simplified version" specifically for E3.

Re base hacking,
In PS1 everyone could hack bases control consoles in bases and towers, you just needed a hacking tool in your inventory.
Elite hacking made it go faster, and rank 2 also allowed you to hack enemy terminals and steal vehicles.
Further down the road they added higher ranks, which allowed you to hack turrets (which would then act as if friendly), put viruses on bases, etc.
