There are no "special servers". Language is client side. No PvP or RP servers. No East or West coast servers either.

I believe their servers are either based in Texas so its pretty much in the middle, or they are all in Seattle so not much difference with it being up north west.
That will be interesting for PVP.

While you can change your home world, there is a limit of one world transfer every seven days per account and a charge of 1,800 gems for each transfer.
A world transfer moves all of your existing characters to your new home world.
Any subsequent characters you create will also play in this new home world.

We get to choose our server even for beta but this time I think its a little different.
With W^3 playing a big part in GW2 I hardly see the point of everyone in Oceania going on the same server.
Sure during our peak you would win every match but you probably dont have the numbers to defend in the off peak?
Only a handful of us have pre purchased so for beta its just as easy for the first person in game to put the server name next to his nick in vent.
Jump on to confirm tho ffs cos they may get on and go wtf did I choose this and be in the process of transferring!
You can swap easily enough anyway.

As for choosing a server, there is a list up now so we could choose in advance.

Yeah AU look like they are pushing for Sea of Sorrows and Darkhaven.
Dont mind giving them a wide berth if it looks like limited beta time is wasted in a queue.
My DL was only an hour.../hugs cable

i just got home and mine is finnished so thats good,

and in regards to wasting time in Q, there isnt a Q as such not like we are accustom too, they have overflow servers which u play on until there is room on ur proper server when there is room it prompts you do you want to transfer to " server name" here

I'm sure I'm having connection issues.
My kb/sec goes up to 250k or so and then the download stops making it drop back to almost 0 before it goes again.
I know fuck all about internet and network testing ect.

Tis slow Goraz but its also 40% of the files, not 40% of 12.7GB so it could speed up from here on in.

Yeah I forgot about the overflow system.
Jump on vent Saturday and see what server the early birds picked.

I'd say it's more of a case of iinet's Akamai, which is notoriously slow.

Youtube struggling to buffer sometimes? That's iinet's akamai node screwing you over.

The tinfoil hat says Akamai are bedfellows with those whom AFACT represented, as shown by their overwhelming support of UltraViolet.

Here is some more light reading from Dragon Season, its a good read but they didnt do any W^3 due to numbers.
Guild Wars 2 Hands-On Preview
Character Creation
Personal Story
Dynamic Events
Dungeons
Structured PvP
Did you know?
What is still missing?

As promised, today I will present my in-game experience from Guild Wars 2 during the European Fan Day event. This event took place in Brighton, UK, between April 2-3 and as you already know Dragon Season was there to cover it.
During this two-day period we had the opportunity to get in touch with many of the game’s aspects. We got to live a part of our character’s Personal Story, participated in a few Dynamic Events, experienced the magic the game’s Dungeons have to offer and combated one another during a couple of Structured PvP sessions.
Before we proceed I would like to mention that we did not have a go at World vs World despite it being available to us in the given build, as the small number of participants made it impossible to test large scale combat. It is also useful to mention that we are still under NDA on everything related to the in-game store and the trading post. Please understand that because of this we cannot go into any details about any of the three aforementioned elements.....

Small grab of issues to be aware of in the beta.

Selecting the “Windowed Fullscreen” option in Display does not save the setting.

AMD CrossFire™ and NVIDIA® SLI™ are not currently supported.
These features should be disabled while running the game. (ffs its WoW all over again!)

Forcing anti-aliasing through AMD Catalyst™ Control Center or AMD VISION™ Engine Control Center typically results in a black screen when playing.

We are currently optimizing Guild Wars 2, making ongoing improvements to the game’s frame rate.
Presently, the game is CPU-bound on most high-end systems, so lowering graphics settings or upgrading your video card may not have a large impact on performance.

Currently, adjusting the core clock speed of the GPU or CPU typically results in lower performance.
It is advised that you leave core clock speeds at factory defaults.

On rare occasions, a player’s personal story may not progress correctly. Restarting these instances and trying again should allow you to continue.

While trying to completely explore maps and find all points of interest, it is important to note that some of these locations are not labeled on the correct floor.
Click on the map-level icons in the lower-right corner of the world map—or use the Page Up and Page Down keys while viewing the world map—to reveal the different floors.

Borlis Pass

Sea of Sorrows is FULL and cannot select it.
Looking for another that will have room by the time the others get on.

I'm going Borlis Pass, its only medium.

SoS was full before 5am and my other preferred choices are already on High so will probably be full by the time the others get online so I went a medium server.

Not sure the two of us would have downed it if it wasnt dormant Rik, I was having enough trouble with the shades.

While checking other videos it reminded me of the detail available to character creation.
You could sit there for 30mins tinkering with the way your character looks.
eg. The Eyes options:
Eye Angle
Iris Size
Eye Size Height
Brow Thickness
Eyebrow Placement
Eyebrow Angle
Eye Size Width.
Too many options for facial features when you spend so much time looking at the arse end!

And a few things that I didnt do all that well during the beta.
Dodge, this is pretty important but it wasnt til near the end that I paid much attention to it. Low mobs are good to practice on.

Red circles, this is the GW2 fire and with so much going on I sometimes missed that red outline of a circle or managed to dodge into it.

Melee, I didnt play a melee character but will do so next time. When I was exploring I came across a Warrior and we kinda teamed up seeing we were headed the same way. His damage was massive and he didnt seem to have many issues with packs so the melee AOE must be decent.

And Tool Tips, never took the time to read each one carefully and missed a lot of useful information.
