Planetside 2 - in depth video with Matt Higby - Creative Dir

A video hook up where AGN (PSU) and Matt Higby are discussing the game, there are a number of screen shots through out it.
Vehicle customization, map speculation and how things like playing at night will pan out with dark maps and bullet tracers lighting up the sky etc.
This goes on for nearly 2hrs and there are annotations that are listed at the start to jump around to the bits you want to listen/watch.
You dont see someone in his position give so much of his time like this.
Might be too much for some to watch all at once but bookmark it and go back to it, its well worth it.

Its a lot better than it was 10 yrs ago.
And if we can get decent latency playing swtor on east coast servers I'm hopeful it will be even better on a PS2 west coast server.
Something that blizzard did nothing about after all these years.

Yeah I know DB, and that’s what I am counting on. But ultimately, it’s still going to affect us. Has there been any talk on whether they’re going with the same hit detection methods? Ie local hit, as opposed to standard FPS server-side calculations?

My issue was that was that initially, when it’s still novelty and you’re running around in wide-eyed wonder, even a 2000ms ping was irrelevant, it was omgbestgameever! But once you get past that, once you become interested in performing well, in being competitive, that’s where ping used to shaft you. Like dying to some scrub when you’re behind cover, but actually not, thanks to good ol Dr Latency.

At least with PS1, there were enough non lag dependant roles that it didn’t matter – and weapons that were not single hit – ie more reliant on accuracy – splash damage/spray weapons are infinitely better for that kind of latency sensitive game.

• Will lag be as bad as Planetside?
Forgelight uses a combination of CSHD and SSHD and lag will not be as big of an issue as with Planetside.


and while we are at it....no vehicle hacking :cry:

No restriction on cross-empire communication :twisted:
